“We don't think about child care properly. We continue to think about it as a service that lets mothers and fathers go to work, which of course it is, so it's easy to think about it that way. But it's also the environment that determines a considerable part of the growth and development of children. And once you start thinking about it that way it's a different ball game.”

Hi Bobbie,
ReplyDeleteI love Renatta's motivation and i see you are in agreement with it. The way i see it is, there are still a lot of children to be reached and really we are not there yet. No matter how much has been accomplished there is still more to be done. Thanks for your post.
I am really starting to love Zigler. He tells it how it is, and he seems so "real" about things. I definitely like the first quote of his that you used. I also used Louise's quote about hating the waste... And how dead on is she when she says that her passion to create a safer world for the kids will be there forever? Thanks for the quotes, Bobbie!
ReplyDeleteHi Bobbie,
ReplyDeleteI so agree with the quote from Edward Zigler. For so long childcare/preschool have been considered glorified babysitting services. However now it is becoming a valuable part of a child's learning experience. Early Childhood profressionals that are working with the youngest learners are now being recognized and respected for the work they do on a daily basis. Thanks for sharing.
Bobbie,
ReplyDeleteI also love your first quote from Zigler. I wish there were more people who knew that childcare is more than just free daycare. I also like Renatta Cooper's quote that you shared in your post. You can tell how passionate and motivated she is to keep going for the rest of her life. Our job never ends, but everyday we are a step closer to providing the next generation with the skills and knowledge to be successful in society. Well chosen quotes!
