Code of Ethics - Ideals

These ideals are borrowed from the NAEYC and reflect areas that I both strongly resonate with and need to work on more consistently and intentionally.

I-3C.2  To create and maintain a climate of trust and candor that will enable staff to speak and act in the best interests of children, families, and the field of early childhood care and education.
I-3C.3 To strive to secure adequate and equitable compensation (salary and benefits) for those who work with or on behalf of young children.

I need to listen, to regard and to respect my assistants and encourage my colleagues and administration to do the same. Provide for and encourage input and feedback. Seek to understand their culture and their reticence to make changes or to speak against injustices. To help create and atmosphere of camaraderie and acceptance among the administration, lead teachers and assistants to promote the best interests of the children and their families.

I-3A.2  To share resources with co-workers, collaborating to ensure that the best possible early childhood care and education program is provided.
I-3A.3  To support co-workers in meeting their professional needs and in their professional development.

I need to work with my principal to help make this happen firstly on our campus and among the three of them and work to include our new Chinese campus. It may begin with emails and texts and hopefully edge into weekly meetings and eventually to an increased sharing of ideas and resources.

I-1.1  To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.
I-2.7 To share information about each child's education and development with families and to help them understand and appreciate the current knowledge base of the early childhood profession.
I-2.8 To help family members enhance their understanding of their children and support the continuing development of their skills as parents.

With the resources gained through this course, I am broadening my base of exposure and effectiveness. I must not just share what I do but also why and accompany it with resources that can enrich their lives with the young child.

I commit to continuous examination of my personal weakness and biases and make myself accountable in this process. To see myself as a professional who has a sphere of influence and to serve them to the best of my ability.

  1. Bobbie - I think it is very important to respectfully collaborate with our colleagues (as your first ideal implies). Even though it's not easy to agree with the individuals we work with, we definitely owe it to the children to work together in order to create the best environment possible for them. Thank you for posting.

  2. As we progress in this field, it is definitely necessary that we support our co - workers in meeting their professional needs in their professional development because this creates a good working environment which in turn increases productivity both in the children and in the workers.

It’s been a pleasure working with you. Though, I haven’t met you it’s like I know you probably because we share similar experience. Thanks for the wisdom and uniqueness you brought to the table. I learned a lot from you and I appreciate your being true to yourself. I wish you all the best as you progress hoping we get to work together, even if we don’t, I will definitely keep in touch.
